Field-Level Authorization
Field-level authorization evaluates permission separately for each individual piece of data a request asks for, rather than treating an entire endpoint or query as a single all-or-nothing unit. This matters most where a single request can flexibly ask for many different fields at once — a caller might be permitted to see most of what they're requesting but not a specific sensitive field mixed in among the rest.
Implementing this consistently is more involved than an endpoint-level check, because permission logic has to run once per field rather than once per request, and a single omission leaves exactly one field silently unprotected while everything else works correctly — a gap that's easy to miss because most of the response looks entirely normal.
